A Manahawkin man was sentenced to five years in prison for theft by failure to make disposition when he did little to no work on homes damaged by Superstorm Sandy despite receiving nearly $700,000 for repairs, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said Friday.
Adam Nevius, 49, had his sentencing delayed by over half a year due to him fleeing New ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ last year, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said in a news release.
Nevius entered a guilty plea June 19, 2023, before Judge Guy P. Ryan, who also ordered Nevius to pay $594,607 in restitution. Nevius was supposed to appear in court Aug. 25, 2023, for sentencing, but failed to appear, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Nevius was arrested March 14 in Lafayette, Indiana, by the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department. He was extradited to New ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ on March 26, and had been in the Ocean County jail since March 29.

Nevius and his wife, Kimberly Atkinson, 55, owners of Coastal Restorations & Construction of N.J. LLC, were charged April 2, 2019, with theft by failure to make disposition. Atkinson also was charged with theft by deception, but those charges were dismissed by Ryan after Nevius exonerated her.
Between 2014 and 2017, Nevius entered into contracts with at least 17 homeowners and two sub-contractors for repairs on their homes, the Prosecutor's Office said. Despite receiving almost $700,000 for repairs, Coastal Restoration did little or no work on the homes. Instead, Nevius used those funds for his own personal benefit.
